چکیده

In this paper we suggest a fast numerical approach to treat problems of the hereditary linear viscoelasticity, which results in the system of elliptic partial differential equations in space variables , who’s coefficients are Volterra integral operators of the second kind in time. We propose to approximate the relaxation kernels by the product of purely timeand space-dependent terms, which is achieved by their piecewisepolynomial space-interpolation. A priori error estimate was obtained and it was shown, that such approximation does not decrease the convergence order, when an interpolation polynomial is chosen of the same order as the shape functions for the spatial finite element approximation, while the computational effort is significantly reduced.

An Enhanced Finite Element method for Two Dimensional Linear Viscoelasticity using Complex Fourier Elements

In this paper, the finite element analysis of two-dimensional linear viscoelastic problems is performed using quadrilateral complex Fourier elements and, the results are compared with those obtained by quadrilateral classic Lagrange elements. Complex Fourier shape functions contain a shape parameter which is a constant unknown parameter adopted to enhance approximation’s accuracy. Since the iso...

Numerical Solution of Linear Quasistatic Hereditary Viscoelasticity Problems

We give a space-time Galerkin nite element discretization of the linear quasistatic compressible viscoelasticity problem as described by an elliptic partial diierential equation with a Volterra (memory) term. The discretization consists of a continuous piecewise linear approximation in space with a discontinuous piecewise constant or linear approximation in time. We derive an a priori maximum-e...

Finite Element Approximation of Maxwell's Equations with Debye Memory

Maxwell’s equations in a bounded Debye medium are formulated in terms of the standard partial differential equations of electromagnetism with a Volterra-type history dependence of the polarization on the electric field intensity. This leads to Maxwell’s equations with memory. We make a correspondence between this type of constitutive law and the hereditary integral constitutive laws from linear...

Modified Fixed Grid Finite Element Method in the Analysis of 2D Linear Elastic Problems

In this paper, a modification on the fixed grid finite element method is presented and used in the solution of 2D linear elastic problems. This method uses non-boundary-fitted meshes for the numerical solution of partial differential equations. Special techniques are required to apply boundary conditions on the intersection of domain boundaries and non-boundary-fitted elements. Hence, a new met...

NON-STANDARD FINITE DIFFERENCE METHOD FOR NUMERICAL SOLUTION OF SECOND ORDER LINEAR FREDHOLM INTEGRO-DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS

In this article we have considered a non-standard finite difference method for the solution of second order  Fredholm integro differential equation type initial value problems. The non-standard finite difference method and the composite trapezoidal quadrature method is used to transform the Fredholm integro-differential equation into a system of equations. We have also developed a numerical met...
